Yelu Marketing runs marketing for home-services companies. kpibetter is what happened when one client wanted to see, every day, whether any of it was working.
It started as one office TV.
An HVAC company in Southern California asked us for a screen in their office: the week’s revenue against target, whether tomorrow was booked, and who was closing. Housecall Pro had all of it, in a dozen reports nobody opened.
So we built the screen. Then the owner wanted the technicians’ numbers on it, which meant deciding what counts as a sale when a maintenance tech turns a system replacement and a salesperson closes it. Then the marketing report, which meant agreeing what a lead is. Every one of those decisions was argued over in that office, written down with its date, and turned into a rule the dashboards read.
After a few months the rules were the valuable part. The engine that computed them could run for any Housecall Pro company, with that company’s rules in place of the first one’s. That is kpibetter: the same boards, your rules, set up from your own account and changed through a process you can follow.

Four rules about the rules.
A number without its rule is a rumour.
Every figure on a board comes with the rule that produced it, and that rule has a version and a date. When two people disagree about a number, they read the rule instead of arguing.
Fair to the people on the board.
A scoreboard changes behaviour. Service, maintenance and hybrid techs are measured against their own targets, sellers get the sale, and nobody is judged on work they were never given.
Built for the back of the room.
The TV is read from fifteen feet away by someone holding a coffee. If it needs a mouse, a login or a squint, it is wrong.
No silent changes.
Changes go through tickets with a status and a reply time. The office always knows what changed and when it took effect.
